Inclined Plate Clarifier

Problems

Suspended solids are commonly removed from wastewater prior to reuse or discharge. Several methods are presently available for removal of suspended solids from water : sedimentation, hydrocyclones, pressure filtration, and ultrafiltration are commonly encountered. Sedimentation using a clarifier is the process of choice for use in many areas, such as removal of precipitated heavy metals and flocculated solids, where solids loading is heavy, flows are high, simplicity of operation is important, and operating cost is a major factor.

Principal Of Operation

The liquid containing solids to be separated enters the unit through the inlet pipe, flows downward through the inlet chamber in the center of the unit and enters the plates through openings on the sides. As the liquid flows upward, the solids settle on the inclined, parallel plates and slide into the sludge hopper at the bottom of the unit. In the hopper the sludge is thickened prior to discharge through the sludge outlet.

The clarified liquid leaves the plate assembly through the openings at the top and is distributed into collection channels leading to the clarified water outlet.

The openings at the top of the plate assembly are designed to create a pressure drop across the collection channels, which ensures that the flow is distributed uniformly between the plates and that the full area is utilized.

The operational reliability of the SuperSettler is increased by using the clarified liquid as the tow control medium, which makes the unit less sensitive to flow variations and reduces the risk of fouling

The feature which assured the success of the SuperSletter technology is the unique flow control system. It uses the clarified liqiud as the control medium, ensuring that the flow is ditributed uniformly across the plate assembly.

Allowing the feed to enter the plate assembly from the side, rather than from underneath, eliminates the risk of disturbing previously settled material

To reduce the weight of the clarifier’s plate pack and to simplify cleaning, we utilize an easy to remove inclined plate assembly design constructed of a high density, glossy flat fiberglass sheet with PVC spacers and plastic hardware. Plate assemblies are removable one at a time so pack removal is easily handled by one man. Due to the flat construction of the plates, packs are easily cleaned in place by simply running a squeegee down between the plates.
